The Queensland Police Commissioner says he expects convicted paedophile Dennis Ferguson will stay at a new undisclosed location in Brisbane until after a court appeal has been finalised.
Bob Atkinson says Ferguson was moved from Carbrook, south of Brisbane, sometime in the past 24 hours and says he is no threat to the community.
A Brisbane court will tomorrow hear an appeal against a judge's decision to permanently stay child sex charges against the 60-year-old.
Carbrook resident Gary Chappell says he is glad Ferguson has been moved and locals are planning a party tonight.
"It was going to be a farewell Dennis party and we were garnishing support, because we thought we were in for the long haul," he said.
"Then we hear the news today and now it's going to be a celebration party."
Meanwhile Police Minister Judy Spence has told the ABC she does not know where Ferguson is staying.
"I haven't even asked the police and I thought it was better that I didn't know so I didn't have to answer these kind of questions," she said.
"But I'm very confident that the fact that he has got a 24-hour police escort with him all the time, he's not going to be walking down the street."
