Video shows Palestinian captive shot with rubber bullet

An investigation is underway after an Israeli human rights group released a video showing an Israeli policeman shooting a Palestinian captive with a rubber bullet at close range.

In the video, the man is blindfolded and handcuffed, standing next to a police van, when a soldier standing near him aims his gun at the man's leg and fires.

Human Rights group B'tselem says the footage was shot on July 7 in the town of Na'alin and shows the man in the custody of Israeli security forces after what they described as a violent riot.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) says the gun was an anti-riot weapon and the man was very lightly wounded, but it also says the incident is a stark violation of its rules of conduct and safety.

The IDF says a military investigation into the incident is underway.
