Child porn operation nets 100th arrest

The number of arrests from a nationwide police operation against child pornography has reached 100, and police say they are working to apprehend the ringleaders of online networks.

Operation Centurion is a joint operation between federal and state police forces which has focused on illegal internet sites.

Most of the charges relate to the downloading of child pornography, but Assistant Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin says investigators are also closing in on producers of the websites.

"We're always getting closer, which is why we work so closely with our overseas law enforcement partners," he said.

"The internet doesn't have the borders and boundaries we're used to so a lot of these crimes start overseas, a lot of the images start overseas, and the webrings certainly don't find themselves starting just here in Australia."
