A teenage boy has been charged with raping a seven-year-old boy near Cairns in far north Queensland.
The 14-year-old is accused of rape, deprivation of liberty and two counts of indecent treatment of a child.
Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Horan says police believe the assault happened while the seven-year-old boy was playing in the grounds of a school.
"The seven-year-old, we've had him medically examined and we'll arrange any follow up that's required," he said.
"The 14-year-old will be appearing in court I think on July 22.
"He has not been held in custody but arrangements have been made for his care."
The teenage boy will face the Childrens Court next week.
