Bodies-in-barrel mastermind jailed for 32 years

A woman who masterminded the murder of a couple whose bodies were found in smouldering barrels on the New South Wales south coast has been sentenced to at least 24 years in jail.

Kim Leanne Snibson, 38, pleaded guilty to the 2006 murder of Nowra couple Gregory Hosa and Kathryn McKay about half-way through her trial this year.

The court heard she recruited two men to help her bind and gag the couple, before they were put in 44-gallon drums which were set alight in the Tomerong State Forest.

Her accomplices, 29-year-old Stacey Lea Caton and 33-year-old Andrew Flentjar, are already serving jail sentences for their involvement in the kidnapping and murders.

One of the men testified that Kim Snibson told him the couple videoed her performing sex acts.

The other man said she told him Gregory Hosa interfered with children.

In sentencing Kim Snibson, Justice Terrence Buddin said he has been unable to determine her motive and that the three people involved in the murders have given a different version of events.

But he said the murders involved a significant amount of premeditation and two people lost their lives in horrendous circumstances

He said Gregory Hosa and Kathryn McKay must have suffered slow and painful deaths after being detained at Kim Snibson's house before they were killed.

"They were totally defenceless," he said.

The judge described some of Kim Snibson's evidence about the murders as fanciful.

Wearing a black coat, Kim Snibson sat quietly today as she was sentenced to 32 years' jail with a non-parole period of 24.

Family members of Gregory Hosa and Kathryn McKay were in the court and declined to comment.
